GC/MS, Gas Chromatography

GC/MS, Gas Chromatography – a way to tell purity of volatile materials. It can be used to look for residual solvents in drugs or other materials as well. Mass Spectrometry – gives a mass of a molecule. It can also be used to shatter a molecule and get the mass of the fragments. It is a technique used in analytical chemistry, separation science, used in explosive investigations, drug detection, used in airport security to detect illegal substances. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) analytical technique – used to measure how well a sample absorbs light at each wave length. It measures the energy to bend and flex bonds and provides a “fingerprint” of a substance for confirmation of identity.
